RATIONALE
The idea of ‘Managing your Superiors’ is a fairly recent concept. Traditionally, we are expected to pander to our manager’s every whim, waiting to be told what to do and how to do it. However, more recently superiors and sub-ordinates have begun to realise that this approach is not particularly rewarding or productive. Although the term “managing your superiors” might imply the necessity to manipulate or control your managers, that is not the intention. Rather than being an underhand exercise, it is a way for employees to help their superiors do their jobs better, and to have more control of their own work life. Managing your superior is ultimately about understanding that your manager is one of, if not the most important customer you have. If the relationship between an employee and a superior is rocky, then it is in the employee’s best interest to find a way to resolve it.
When you take the time to cultivate a productive working relationship by understanding your boss’s strengths and weaknesses, priorities and work style, everyone wins. You depend on your superiors for direction, feedback and support while your boss depends on you for new ideas, hard work and cooperation to achieve the organisation’s goals. Both sides have needs and something to offer. Therefore, this course will help its participants become more confident in dealing with their superiors, particularly in difficult situations and to develop effective strategies for an exceptional working relationship with superiors.
